Aside from the mad-dash to make sure your home passes the "white glove test," few things become more apparent when guests are coming than bare walls. Suddenly your home feels a bit plain, and sparse. They talk about spring cleaning, but there is nothing like the upcoming holidays to get me to look around my own home and add touches.
I've compiled a few of my favorite pieces that combine interest, beauty, simplicity and the ever-present-design-essential: universal appeal. No matter what your home's style is, curated artwork brings the room together, adds a focal point, and creates ambiance. As the autumn days speed toward Thanksgiving and Christmas, I love the simplicity of clicking and ordering when I am in a hurry so we tried to make it easy for you to find some favorites. Understated and muted but interesting, this triptych gives an instant feel of motion and texture for an otherwise ho-hum wall. A client introduced me to this work of art. It is more than dots and dashes on a canvas. It’s meaning is as old as the Bible - the classic story of 5 loaves and 3 fishes.

Coastal vibes are and have always been a timeless choice. The intricate shell designs and simple blue scheme keep the images understated and simple and add a unique touch to any wall space. Align them vertically between bookcases, even. This versatility is immense. Consider carrying the blue and white theme through as you decorate for the holidays, with groups of chinoiserie vases and jars displayed with deep green leafed holly and bright red berries.

This triptych brings the beauty of the sky into your home with soft, subtle hues and a calming serenity.

Again, bringing nature indoors is the fastest way to open "cramped" space and add visual dynamism that draws the eye and creates instant calm.

This gallery wall approach is great for a wall that is begging for something! The artwork features the work of English textile designer William Morris. Williams Morris designs have enjoyed a resurgence of interest in the past few years. They seem to speak to today as much as they did during the Arts and Crafts movement that Mr. Morris is so associated with.

Weird, empty space that's too small for everything but begging for something? This “bar” console instantly brings appeal, more seating and an excellent way to make the most of a small space.

And finally, a classic "art" piece. You simply cannot go wrong with a mindfully chosen artistic piece to pair above a cozy couch or seating area. It's also great to use to bring the center of the room into focus, especially in open floor plans where focus can be lost.
